Version 1 — 2 September 2026. These terms cover this website: the pages you are reading and the field on the front of them. There are no accounts and nothing is sent from here, so there is no service agreement to sign. Terms for the product follow when the product opens.
What this site is for
Information, and a working demonstration of the thing being built. The pages describe kinds of contract and the legal systems a contract can name. The field on the front page drafts one from a sentence, in your browser, so you can see what the product does before there is anything to join.
Not legal advice, and not a lawyer
Nothing on this site is legal advice and no page here is reviewed by a lawyer. Reading it creates no professional relationship of any kind. If a decision matters, the person to ask is somebody qualified in the place your deal lives, and the editorial policy sets out exactly what these pages do and do not claim to be.
Drafts come with no warranty
A draft made here is a starting point, not a finished agreement. It is offered as it is, with no promise that it fits your situation, covers what your deal needs, or holds up anywhere. You are the one who reads it and you are the one who decides to use it. The draft itself is yours: we claim nothing in the words the door writes for you.
What belongs to whom
The writing, design, code and name of this site belong to contracts.io. Two things on it do not, and both are recorded rather than absorbed. The facts about places come from Wikidata, published under CC0. The flag artwork is vendored from open sets under their own licences, with every file, source and author written down in the licence record.
Using it fairly
Read the pages, quote them with a link, and make as many drafts as you like. What is not welcome is scraping the catalogue wholesale to republish it as somebody else’s, or anything that degrades the site for other people. Machine readers are catered for on purpose: there is a sitemap, a feed, and an index written for agents.
Availability
This site changes often and no uptime is promised. Pages are added, rewritten and occasionally removed while the product is being built.
Governing law

The law these site terms are governed by has not been chosen yet. This site spends 184 pages arguing that a governing law is a decision somebody makes on purpose, so we are not going to put a default in our own terms. It is named here once it is chosen.
Changes to these terms
When they change, the version at the top changes with them, and the reviewed date below moves. Questions go through the contact page.
